ITA Tabs SIUE Tennis Programs for Academic Honors
Eight SIUE tennis players have been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) as Scholar-Athlete award winners. The Cougars men’s and women’s teams each had four representatives.
Men’s players selected were Jack Desse, Matthew Hutchinson, Nicolas Vincent and Patrick Gaffigan, while Haley Ilcewicz, Kali Donner, Mia Frogner and Sierra Halverson were the Cougars’ women’s honorees.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1) be a varsity letter winner; 2) have a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the current academic year; and 3) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
SIUE was one of 69 NCAA Division I men’s tennis programs and also one of 117 NCAA Division I women’s tennis programs to be named as 2015 ITA All-Academic teams.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any member program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale). All eligible student-athletes whose names appear on the NCAA eligibility form and have competed in one or more varsity matches must average into the GPA for the current academic year (including fall 2014 and spring 2015).
All members of the 2015 ITA All-Academic Teams and ITA Scholar-Athletes will receive a certificate to recognize their achievement.
